There is a very specific kind of morning that happens when you run a business.
Your eyes open and somehow your brain is already at work.
Did that customer email me back?
I need to post today.
Did that invoice get paid?
I forgot to order that.
Oh, that would make a GREAT idea for the business.
Let me check yesterday’s sales real quick.
And just like that, you’ve clocked into your business before your feet have touched the floor.
I know this because I’ve done it too.
And when you’re an entrepreneur, it’s easy to convince yourself that getting a head start is a good thing.
But your business doesn’t need every waking minute you have.
Especially not the first few.
Your Morning Routine Doesn’t Need More Steps
Search for morning routines online and you’ll find plenty of suggestions.
Wake up at 5 a.m.
Work out.
Meditate.
Journal.
Read.
Make your bed.
Review your goals.
Plan your day.
Drink a gallon of water.
And somehow do all of this before the sun comes up.
Ma’am.
I already have a business to run. 😂
I don’t want a morning routine that requires its own checklist.
I want something that works on a random Tuesday when orders need to go out, I have meetings on my calendar, content needs to be created and life is still happening outside of my business.
That’s what makes a Me Time Morning™ different.
We’re not trying to see how much we can accomplish before 8 a.m.
We’re creating a small transition between waking up and going to work.
Even when your office is ten steps away.
Before You Check the Business, Check In With Yourself
One of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship is that there isn’t always a clear line between you and the business.
Your phone is your office.
Your social media is part of your marketing.
Your inbox is always open.
Your customers can place orders while you’re sleeping.
And there’s always something you could be doing.
That’s why I had to become more intentional about what happens before I start working.
Your morning doesn’t have to begin with checking yesterday’s sales.
Or Instagram.
Or your inbox.
Or your website.
Or whatever notification popped up overnight.
Give yourself 10 minutes first.
Not because 10 minutes will magically make your entire day perfect.
Because you deserve to experience part of your morning before your business does.
Start With Something You’re Already Doing
This is where coffee comes in.
I’m not giving you another thing to add to your morning.
If you’re already a coffee drinker, the habit already exists.
You’re going to brew the coffee anyway.
The difference is what happens next.
Instead of making your coffee and immediately carrying it to your computer, sit down.
Instead of sipping while responding to emails, sip without doing anything for the business.
Instead of opening Instagram because you “just need to post something real quick,” leave the phone where it is.
Give yourself 10 minutes.
Coffee.
Maybe a candle.
Maybe music.
Maybe a journal.
Maybe absolutely nothing.
That’s your Me Time Morning™.
A Realistic Morning Routine for an Entrepreneur
Here’s what this can actually look like:
Wake up.
Before immediately checking every notification that came in overnight, get yourself together.
Make your coffee.
And make something you genuinely enjoy drinking.
Sit down for 10 minutes.
No business.
No email.
No sales dashboard.
No “let me just do this one thing.”
Pause. Sip. Savor.®
Then start your day.
That’s it.
Your entire morning does not have to revolve around self-care for self-care to have a place in your morning.
Your Business Can Wait 10 Minutes
I know how easy it is to say, “I’ll take some time for myself after I finish this.”
But entrepreneurs know how that story goes.
You finish this and discover three more things.
Then a customer needs something.
Then there’s an email.
Then you remember something else.
And suddenly it’s afternoon.
That’s one of the reasons I’m such a believer in taking the time before the day gets moving.
Ten minutes isn’t going to ruin your productivity.
Your customers will survive.
The emails will still be there.
Instagram will absolutely still be there.
And your business isn’t going to collapse because the CEO drank her coffee while it was still hot.
Tomorrow Morning, Don’t Clock In So Fast
If you’re a woman entrepreneur who feels like you’re always thinking about the next thing your business needs, try this tomorrow.
Before your business gets you…
take 10 minutes for you.
Make your coffee.
Sit down.
Don’t make those minutes productive.
And don’t feel like you have to earn them by accomplishing something first.
Then, when those 10 minutes are over, go be the CEO.
The business can have you then.
Pause. Sip. Savor.®
Make Tomorrow Morning a Me Time Morning™
If coffee is going to anchor those 10 minutes, make it something you actually look forward to drinking.
Me Time Coffee is specialty-grade and roasted fresh to order for women who want their morning coffee to be more than something they drink while rushing into the day.
